Fallen Grace

Post by Rinnala Yaarou »

Character Details
Name: Rinnala Yatagana-Yaarou

Order: Human

Age: 25

Tribe: Yaarou

Personality

Rinnala is a force of nature, a natural-born killer forged in the crucible of disgrace and ambition. Her mind is a finely tuned instrument of logic and strategy, honed to strip away all sentimentality. She has deliberately cultivated an almost absolute lack of empathy, replacing it with a cold, clear, crisis-proof certainty in her actions. Precision is her religion, power her ultimate goal. Every move is calculated, every resource weighed, every potential outcome analyzed.

Rinnala is ruthlessly intelligent, capable of intricate planning and brutal execution. However, this formidable intellect is occasionally overshadowed by a searing ambition – a relentless drive not just to succeed, but to dominate and reclaim what was lost. While this ambition fuels her rise, it can also lead her to take risks that even she might struggle to control, especially given the volatile nature of her powers.

Appearance

Rinnala stands at 5'11", a commanding presence with a moderately lean, honed physique that speaks of rigorous training. Her dark black hair typically hangs straight, sometimes falling across her face during intense moments, hinting at a suppressed wildness. Her skin is an ashen complexion, a stark contrast to the vivid color hidden within her eyes. Rinnala's true eye color is a breathtaking, almost ethereal burning azure blue, a direct result of her mutation. However, these powerful eyes are usually masked by the sophisticated limiter tech she wears – small, intricately carved jade-colored earrings that subtly hum with suppressed energy. These limiters project an illusion, giving her eyes the appearance of the Yaarou's natural, intense, piercing red, effectively concealing the true, dangerous nature of her vision.

Unique Marks:

She bears a faint, almost invisible scar tracing a thin line from her left eyebrow towards her temple, a remnant from an early mission where her powers first manifested uncontrollably. Discreetly tattooed high on her left shoulder blade is the symbol of the Still Shadows – a stylized raven with wings unfurled, signifying her allegiance to the faction that gave her a second chance.

The Azure Fractals: Upon her sclera, faint, glowing fractal patterns can be seen if one looks closely enough, pulsing softly when her precognition activates.

Yaarou Traits: She possesses the sharp, angular facial features typical of the Yaarou bloodline—high cheekbones and a defined jawline.

Anthem
Aoi Kaigen
Show
A technique named after the legendary Yaarou progenitor Aoi, the "Veild Whisper". Translated from the Yaarou tongue to common Vescrutian means "Deep Blue Shores". After an encounter with an "Azure Shard" – a fragment of the quantum anomaly known as the Azure Flame – Rinnala's world was irrevocably changed. Her eyes have been endowed with powerful, yet untamed, precognition. This allows her to tap into the boundless, chaotic essence of the Azure Flame, allowing her glimpses into potential futures and the manipulation of causality. However, this energy is far too vast and wild for Rinnala to control consistently.

It remains a power she has yet to fully rely on, often manifesting unpredictably. Should it ever spiral out of control, Rinnala can inadvertently create Temporal Scars: swirling mounds of hectic, time-warped space that can produce unpredictable, time-focused anomalies – aging foes rapidly, rewinding localized events, or conjuring echoes of impossible pasts. Because she cannot fully control her power, she also cannot dictate the specific visions of the future she sees, leading to flashes of bewildering and disjointed probabilities that often bring more confusion than clarity.
Traits

Hexed Artifact Adept: Of her many talents, Rinnala is known within the Yaarou as a versatile master of wielding Hexed Artifacts. Her proficiency borders on mythic, allowing her to intuitively grasp the intricacies and maximize the potential of artifacts she's new to wielding, even in some cases, surpassing even Hex-gifted users. This uncanny prowess has granted her special clearance to wield multiple artifacts on her person simultaneously, an honor rarely bestowed. Her most notable artifacts are the Rings of Onryo, a collection of five hexed rings that amplify her Ephemeral Arts.

Terra Synaptic Sense: The Yatagane possesses a unique and profound connection to the earth via naten. Born with extraordinary sensory skills, they can extend their senses through the earth and related naten (stone, metal, even dense vegetation). For Rinnala, this grants her acute sensory perception of vibrations, allowing her to interpret a person’s precise location, movement, and even their intentions from the minute tremors they create. She has fine-tuned this ability so immensely that she can pinpoint even the faintest heartbeats within the most hidden of foes or across vast distances through the ground. This technique is not only tied to the physical but also extends to the spiritual realm: by tapping into what her family calls the “Earth’s Memory,” she can perceive the faded echoes of past events that have transpired on or near the land.

Ephemeral Arts Prodigy: Amongst the Hexless, she is considered rare. Her grasp of the Yaarou's fundemental techinques are peerless, with only the Royal guard, Elders, and the Xh'ion herself being pinnacles she has yet to reach. What tends to set her apart is not the raw destructive power of her art but rather the efficiency and ingenuity she weilds them with. Taking core arts and blending them into new, original techniques.

Doton: Rinnala is a nigh peerless master of Doton or Earth-Based Ephemeral Arts. This mastery is intrinsically linked to her Terra Synaptic trait, giving her an innate connection to Earth naten. She has learned to seamlessly incorporate this connection into many of the Yaarou’s elemental-neutral combat arts, amplifying their might with raw earthen power. This prowess manifests in myriad ways: conjuring protective earth barriers with a flick of her wrist, shaping the very ground to ensnare foes, or delivering blows imbued with seismic force.

Kekkai: The term used for Ephemral Arts Centered around the use of barriers. These techniques are able to produce a litany of varying arts. However, at the core is the utilization of Naten to produce physical and or metaphysical fields. A technique not overlooked in the slightest, as the most proficient of users can use the highest echelon of this branch of Ephemeral arts known as "Supreme Arts." Though Rinnala has yet to reach this pinnacle of prowess, her uncanny proficiency with Kekkai arbiters has given her access to her signature technique. The Zenken no Numa.

Odachi Mastery: Yaarou shinobi are trained in a litany of martial weaponry. However, Rinnala's lack of speed grants her the physical ability to wield the Odachi with ease. Tending to rely on dinfintive strike that can completely cleave her opponents in half.
Faction

The Gōkùdo Corporation

The Yaarou Clan, though heavily influenced by its ancient traditions, has evolved into a complex organization blending legacy with innovation. Still fiercely loyal to their secretive heritage, the Yaarou are a powerful entity with a carefully maintained presence in both legitimate and clandestine spheres of influence.

--In contemporary society, the Yaarou Clan operates under the guise of the Gōkùdo, a transnational, organized mercenary and security corporation. Publicly, they offer specialized security services, private protection, and consulting in counter-intelligence, all backed by a vast network of allies and legitimate financial assets. However, beneath this facade, they are a shadow organization involved in activities such as intelligence gathering, black-market weapons trade, human trafficking, high-stakes assassinations, and strategic manipulation of economic and political landscapes.

Rinnala belongs to a sub-sect of the Yaarou clans, the Gokudo faction known as the Still Shadows. In her public life, she works as a security detail for high rank anf file clients. In reality, this clandestine group specializes in espionage, assassination, and covert operations, often operating outside the traditional Yaarou hierarchy. Their methods are ruthless, pragmatic, and highly effective – a perfect fit for Rinnala's evolving nature. Her specialties lie in reconnaissance and assassination.
Arbiters

Hollow Bodies
Class: Cea
This technique allows the user to create one or more copies (clones) of themselves. The user's Naten is evenly divided between themselves and their clones: creating one clone will give it half the user's Naten, creating two copies will give each a third of the user's Naten, and so on. They are physical constructs, capable of attacking and defending, but they are incredibly fragile. Rinnala has adopted this technique by using earth naten as the base, she can create Doton clones that can be detonated, releases incredble force, as well as mud that she can then magnify the weight of.

Scorned Carrion
Class: Bea
A combination technique inspired by Hollow Bodies and Kawamori's art. It allows her to swap places with a Doton clone, avoiding lethal blows whilst also carrying the clone's ability to detonate and slow her foe. Though useful, it is extremely taxing, costing half her naten reserves to execute.

Shōkotsu
Class: Bea
Restorative Technique that allows the user to regenerate from injuries at accelerated rates.

Seismic Whisper
Class: Dea
Rinnala can send precise, low-frequency vibrations through the ground, creating a detailed mental map of all individuals within a wide radius. This allows her to not only pinpoint their exact locations but also to differentiate between heartbeats, interpret subtle shifts in stance, and even anticipate pre-attack movements, effectively "seeing" through walls and terrain. She can asl use this to resonate with the earth around her, preparing it for manipulation.

Earthen Scythe
Class: Ava
Rinnala can rapidly draw concentrated Earth naten from the ground, shaping it into razor-sharp blades or piercing spikes that erupt from the earth or form directly from her hands. These formations can be launched with significant force or used in close-quarters combat, hardened to rival steel.

Numachi Armor(Swamp Skin)
Class: Bea
Rinnala calls on the earth to cover her like a second skin. It's denisty tends proportionally to the amount of naten she uses to craft it. Which, at standard, rivals steel and can reach diamond levels of density. She camouflages this armor to appear as her regular skin and clothes. It is almost always active and is the reason she cannot use techniques that require or give access to high speed like Yaarou's Joto art.

Zenken Numa(All Seeing Swamp)
Class: Dea
Rinnala's signature technique. An arbiter that further accentuated her prowess as a Shinobi. It is a seamless merging of Kekkai and Doton ephemeral arts. She doesn't just turn the ground into mud; she infuses the earth with their own "pulse." By kneading naten into the tectonic layers and liquefying the soil into a thick, pitch-black marsh, Rinnala creates a **synaptic field**. Every drop of sludge in this swamp acts as a nerve ending. She can manipulate this swamp physically as well as impose her Curses on targets that this swamp makes contact with.

Flicker Step (Controlled Burst)
Class: Bea
With a brief, hyper-focused precognitive burst, Rinnala predicts a single second into the future, allowing her to execute seemingly impossible dodges, parries, or counter-attacks that exploit fleeting openings her opponents don't even realize exist. This ability is extremely taxing and can only be used in short, intense bursts, carrying a risk of temporal feedback that will prevent her from casting subsequent arbiters if she is not careful. It is often used as a last resort to avoid an otherwise fatal attack.

Hexed Instruments

Rings of Onryo
A series of five gold rings etched with weeping kanji. These artifacts allow Rinnala to apply specific "Curses" to any target caught within her Zenken Numa or struck by her various doton techniques.
Curses
Show
Kudaku (Crush)
Thumb
Mass Multiplier: Increases the gravitational weight of her Doton techniques by increasing the density of the mud. Each activation doubles the stack, triggering the "Staggered" debuff.

Sakebi (Scream)
Index
Vocal Resonance: Allows the user to "shout" their Earth curses. Sound waves carry mineral dust, turning a local curse into a long-range projectile.

Nikumi (Envy)
Middle
Naten Siphon: The curse eats the victim's spiritual energy to fuel its own duration. The target essentially pays the "maintenance cost" of their own execution.

Urami (Resentment)
Ring
Sympathetic Link: If the target tries to dispel the curse, the ring reflects 50% of the dispelling force as physical internal trauma. The effect scales with the curse's current strength.

Shizuka (Silence)
Pinky
Sensory Mask: Completely hides the user’s presence to the cursed while a curse is active on them. The earth "accepts" the user as part of itself, making them invisible to all but elite sensory nin.
Weapons

Thread Cleaver: A blue and violet Odachi crafted from a rare ore that is incredibly dense, yet when naten is applied to it becomes lighter without sacrificing mass. Because of the metal's innate naten conductivity, Rinnala is capable of using it to extend the range of various doton techniques. This unique combination has allowed her to adopt the foundations of Yaarou swordsmanship to create a blade style known as Burden Blade. When used in tandem with her, each strike carries with it the possibility of being struck by her Crush Curse.
Pillars

Pillar of Projection: Rinnala's struggle against the rigid, traditionalist ideals and actions of the Yaarou Main Branch and the Council. She projects her anger and resentment onto those who stripped her family of their honor and who maintain a stifling social hierarchy that denigrates the "Hexless" and punishes deviations from their archaic norms.

Pillar of Reflection: Rinnala’s internal battle to control her tumultuous Azure Eyes and to reclaim her family's lost glory. She grapples with the lingering trauma of her sister's "betrayal" and the resulting ostracization, driving her to prove her worth. Her ambition is a double-edged sword: it fuels her relentless drive but also threatens to consume her, especially as she struggles to integrate her wild, uncontrollable precognition with her disciplined combat style. She must overcome her own fears of inadequacy and the allure of unchecked power to truly master herself.

Pillar of Illumination: Rinnala’s challenge to fundamentally alter the Yaarou's entrenched social structure and their narrow definition of power and honor.

To speak of Rinnala Yatagane is to chronicle not merely a life, but an ambition forged in the crucible of loss and tempered by a will as unyielding as the deepest bedrock. Her story is a testament to the Yaarou maxim: honor, once lost, can only be reclaimed through blood and sacrifice.

There was a time, not so long ago, when the name Yatagane resonated with notable distinction across the Yaarou. The lineage of Rinnala’s family was steeped in honor, their presence on the Yaarou’s esteemed Council a fixture, synonymous with profound wisdom and mastery. They were masters of Soulcraft, which was not merely a trade—it was a spiritual science. A Hexcraft so rare and intricate that it set them apart even among the gifted. While Hexcraft itself was a hereditary marvel, gracing but five percent of the Yaarou population with its elusive touch, Soulcraft was a whisper of power, a talent possessed by a mere three percent. To be a Yatagane was to be touched by greatness, to stand at the hand and hand with the zenith of Yaarou society.

From the moment she opened her eyes in the moonstone halls of Qiyoto, it was clear that Rinnala carried no spark of Hexcraft within her. Among the Yaarou, to be Hexless was to be ordinary in a society built on the extraordinary. And though at this point, the Hexless still held great respect and importance in the clan. There was always a sigh of lost hope at the top sector of aristocracy when one was born without hexcraft. But Rinnala refused ordinariness. While others might have retreated into posh, quiet obscurity, she sharpened herself like a blade denied fire—tempered by discipline, honed by will.

She trained at dawn before the sun kissed the spires of the capital. She ran the mirror mazes blindfolded, learning to fight by sound, by breath, by instinct. As did any Yaarou training under the Sunless regimen. She mastered the katas of the Yaarou Shinobi not to impress, but to exist—to prove that even without the bloodline gift, she was worthy of the name she bore.

Her efforts bore fruit. Her movements gained a honed precision, a brutal efficiency. She learned to anticipate, to react, to strike with cleaving efficacy. Her hands, though bare of Hexcraft’s aura, wielded Hexed Artifacts with an intuitive grace that was rare even among the Hexed. Whether it was a blade imbued with heightened perception or armor shimmering with defensive wards, Rinnala’s touch unlocked their latent power, turning passive objects into extensions of her will. She was a savant, a paradox, proving that even a Hexless individual could command the very essence of Soulcrafted creations.

Yet even still, she could not compare to her elder sister, Suzaku.

Suzaku Yatagane was a comet in a sky of stars. Even among the elite, her mastery of Soulcraft was extraordinary. At fifteen, she re-knit an ancient, fractured probability dagger that had lain dormant for centuries. At seventeen, she forged the Veil of Dusk—a cloak said to let its wearer step between moments. When she took their mother’s seat on the Council at nineteen, none disputed it. Few had ever been so deserving of the honor.

Rinnala followed in her shadow—not out of weakness, but out of love. She would have died for Suzaku without hesitation. She trained harder, rose earlier, fought longer—not to surpass, but to serve. To be the sword at her sister’s back, the unseen hand that ensured her brilliance remained unchallenged. Rinnala would have followed her sister to the ends of the earth, a shield against any threat, a silent guardian of her prestige.

Then, that world shattered.

Suzaku, the revered Forgemaster, committed the unthinkable. She fell in love. Not with a fellow Yaarou, not even with an allied clan member, but with a shinobi of the loathsome Shi clan, long-standing enemies whose very existence was anathema to the Yaarou. The revelation ripped through Qiyoto, the Yaarou Capital, like a plague, devastating everything in its wake. The scandal was swift, brutal, and absolute. The sacred trust placed in the Yatagane name dissolved into ignominy.

Rinnala and her family were stripped bare. The venerated Yatagane Main Branch was cast down, forcibly relegated to the Outer Branch, their status reduced to that of commoners, tainted by association. The gilded cage of their former luxury became a forgotten ruin. To Rinnala, seven years old and witnessing the destruction of her entire universe, it was a betrayal beyond comprehension. The sister she had loved, admired, and sworn to protect had, in one devastating act, not only obliterated her own future but dragged her entire family into the abyss.

The subsequent months were a blur of hushed whispers, averted gazes, and the suffocating weight of public scorn. Suzaku, exiled and ostracized, lost her life during childbirth, a final, tragic punctuation mark on her defiance. Her memory became a brand of shame, her name synonymous with treason. Rinnala, the Hexless child, was now a pariah, twice cursed: by her lack of Hexcraft, and by the indelible stain of her sister’s transgression. Her mother died of grief within a year. Her father, broken, retreated into seclusion. And Suzaku—her sister, her light—perished in childbirth, taking with her a child whose very existence was a taboo.

Rinnala was left alone in the ashes.

For thirteen long years, from the tender age of seven until she was a woman of twenty, Rinnala carried the leaden weight of this betrayal. The grief for her sister was a silent, festering wound, intertwined with a crushing shame that left her breathless. Yet, even as her world crumbled, even as others turned their backs, Rinnala never ceased her rigorous training. Perhaps it was a duty, a flicker of the old Yatagane pride refusing to die. Or perhaps, more truthfully, it was a desperate flight, a way to outrun the gnawing emptiness, the suffocating silence of abandonment. Every swing of her blade, every practiced leap, was a defiant roar against the injustice that had consumed her family.

It was during this desolate period that a hand extended to her from the shadows. Elder Keiko, the enigmatic leader of the Gokudo's "Still Shadows" sect, saw something in Rinnala’s hardened resolve, a desperate fire beneath the ashes of her disgrace. She found her—kneeling in the snow outside the abandoned shrine of her ancestors, her hands raw from training, her eyes dry from crying.

“You carry more weight than most men can lift,” Keiko said. “But you carry it alone. Let me give you a blade that fits your burden.”

The Still Shadows, a covert arm operating in the morally ambiguous fringes of Yaarou society, offered a stark alternative: a path to reclaim honor, albeit through unconventional and often brutal means. They were warriors of consequence, not ceremony. Keiko valued results over bloodlines. Rinnala joined without hesitation. Elder Keiko made good on her promsie gifting her the blade Thread Cleaver. Rinnala saw in their shrouded ranks not just a refuge, but a weapon. Thus becoming a part of the clan's Hidden Branch.

For the past five years, Rinnala has been a ghost, a whispered rumor on the wind, far from the polished halls of Qiyoto. Her assignments have taken her across the treacherous Western Continent of Muu, a land vastly untamed and rife with hidden mystic dangers. Her skill as a Shinobi, honed to an unnerving edge, grew sharper still in the unforgiving crucible of Muu landscape as well as its societal structures. She moved with the silence of falling snow, struck with the precision of a viper, her Hexless status a forgotten detail in the face of her lethal efficiency and her unparalleled ability to weave multiple Hexed Artifacts into a seamless, deadly ballet. This and her ability to blend into even foreign societies made her the perfect infiltration expert.
A gaze that pierces the heavens

It was during one such reconnaissance mission, deep within the pulsating heart of Muu, that Rinnala encountered the impossible. Buried within a shimmering cavern, pulsing with an alien luminescence, she found it: an Azure Shard. It was no ordinary mineral, but a splinter of something vast, ancient, and terrifying – the Azure Flame itself. This was not fire as the Yaarou understood it, but a quantum anomaly, a wellspring of fractured probability, warped causality, and buried divinity. To touch a shard, the legends whispered, was "to knock on the door of a dream that dreams back." These fragments were alive in a quantum sense, pulsing with shifting fractal light, living power cores that hummed with untamed energy, capable of being harvested, but lethal to the unprotected.

Rinnala, true to her nature, approached with caution, but also with an unwavering resolve. She sought to understand, to harness, to dominate. She touched the shard. Yet she was dominated instead.

The contact was less a touch and more an absorption, a merging of essences. The Azure Flame surged through her, not burning, but reshaping. Her eyes, once a simple, dark brown, blazed with an ephemeral, shifting azure, forever mutated, forever connected to this incomprehensible entity. She felt the vastness of warped time, the infinite possibilities of causation, swirling within her.

The first manifestation of her new power was as uncontrolled as it was devastating. Cornered by an enemy platoon, her Hexless training and Hexed Artifacts pushed to their limit, a primal scream tore from her, echoing the cosmic roar within. Her eyes pulsed, and reality around her tore. A Temporal Scar opened, a rent in time itself, and the enemy platoon writhed, their forms rapidly aging, skin desiccating, bones turning to dust in a horrifying ballet of accelerated decay. It was over in moments, a silent massacre, leaving only the fine powder of what were once living men. The raw, untamed power terrified her as much as it liberated her.

Since then, Keiko’s sect, with its arcane knowledge, fashioned for her a set of ornate earrings. These were no mere adornments; they were intricate limiters, woven with powerful Hexcraft, designed to contain and suppress the volatile energies that now resided within her eyes. They are a constant reminder of the quantum anomaly she was bonded to, a ticking clock of power that threatens to unravel her reality.
The Yatagane's Return
Show
The shadow of her sister's betrayal and the weight of her family's disgrace have sculpted her into a woman of formidable, almost ruthless, resolve. She is a woman consumed by duty, driven by a legacy she refuses to let die. Yet, in her fervent desire to reclaim honor, there lies a profound and dangerous irony. This path, paved with relentless sacrifice and unwavering determination, threatens to lead Rinnala down a tragic downfall, transforming her into something far more complex and perhaps more terrifying than the esteemed ancestor she so desperately seeks to emulate. She dreams of Qiyoto.

Of standing once more before the Council.

Of restoring her family’s name.

She knows the cost. The Still Shadows demand sacrifice. The Azure Flame demands balance—every use of her eyes erodes her own timeline, shortening her life, fracturing her memory. She forgets her mother’s voice. She forgets her sister’s laugh. Sometimes, she wakes and does not know her own age, her father's face slipping through the cracks of her dreams.

But she remembers honor.

She remembers duty.

And she remembers the vow she whispered over Suzaku’s grave:

“I will carry our name until the world sings it again.”

Now, she returns to Qiyoto.

Not as a beggar in exile.

Not as a Hexless shadow.

But as Rinnala Yaarou—bearer of the Azure Flame, master of the impossible, and the last daughter of a fallen house who will claw her way back into the light, one shattered second at a time.

The Council will bicker.

The Main Branch will revere the Yatagane once more

Its scar is coming home.

And she brings fitself in her gaze.
